long time... here's some stuff

2 week pose (6hrs) in david simons quick sculpt class at LAAFA.  Stands at 13", oil based clay.

Another 2 week sculpt from David Simons class.  Stands at 11.5".  I might finish this one with photo reference just to see how i'd finish.
drawings done on a 18"x12"sheet of paper.
 value studies, 20 mins, 6"x8"

Some copies i did.  first is on a panel 8"x10", other two are on 5"x8" panels.  I have a couple more tiny ones and i  had one larger Repin one which came out looking great but disappeared before i got to shoot photos.  Sad loss, i liked that painting. I think it was 9"x12", maybe a couple inches larger.

then a series of still lives, all 8"x10", and a painting 14"x11".

I'm currently working on a painting 50"x30" based on the smaller Vegas, and a Michelangelo painting based on the statue at Forest Lawn, which turned into a commission.

Hope the holidays are going well, cheers!

this weeks attempts.

the quick sketches of plein air range from 20 mins to 1 hr.  The indoor scene was about 3hrs, the male studies about 1hr each plus or take 20 more mins, and the portrait was 5hrs.   All super fun, alot of growth and practice necessary.

i was part of a show at Skatelab this weekend, this is one of the photos from the show, it is called 'together we are strong 3'.   Rad.  Check it out.   http://www.facebook.com/SkatelabSkatepark.

brush milage

these are the studies i did this week.  I seem to be going through a very long plateau of sucking which can only mean one thing, i need more brush milage.  This to me was an incredibly productive week, i need to do way better then that to improve.  I'm looking forward to it.

now, tiny still lives.

Done in Nicole Duets class at Animation Guild.  I'm beginning to develop a healthy habit of doing a value study before the color comp.  It's worth it.

one sketch out of many

I attended Karl Gnass two figure composition workshop where two amazing models were posing together.  This is one of the 10min sketches i did.

now, little paintings

This painting is from a 3 hr session at Julie Snyders studio.  I adjusted some details at home but i'm having a little trouble finishing the job.  This is 16"x12.
This are about 1 hr alla prima studies.  6"x8", the first is at Santa Barbara Mission and the other is at my friends house.  This is a kinda funny fact... i'm going through something of an empty chair syndrome.  I run outside to paint and i keep being attracted by empty chairs.  I obviously then paint it.  I getting a collection of these guys.  haha.

drawing practice

So.  I felt as if my drawings were suffering due to my lack of understanding.   As a result before i dove into a day filled with numbers i practiced by picking up Richard Schmids 'Landscapes' book and doing some quick sketch copies of  the drawings he had shared.  I love his artwork so it was absolute fun doing these.  Here are two pages, there are two more.
