A sale. A show. A proposal.

Got to visit some awesome paintings this week @ the William Roland Gallery in Thousand Oaks, Cal Luth Uni.  Feeling inspired :)

Sold my painting 'Break' to a wonderful couple this weekend!!  How exciting that it found such a great home.

This is a quick portrait i drew this week.   Still experimenting with charcoal methods.  I've mostly been working on a new painting i need to get done this week.  I've done some compositional sketches in charcoal, some color studies, drew it out on canvas and an putting the finishing touches on the underpainting.   By tomorrow i should be adding some color.   Studying history and aesthetic philosophy.  Check out ItunesU, (University).  They have some great courses there.

annnnddddd, last but not least, the CAC 103 Gold Medal Show is this coming Saturday, March 29. Come and check out some awesome artwork and meet the artists @ the Autry Museum! I will have two paintings hanging and for sale.  So come out!

Running headless chicken syndrome, is what i suffer from

I don't know where the week goes.  Did some modeling, got myself an incredible new palette!! (feels awesome) worked for awhile on a piece... and now i decided that i'm altering the composition.  I hate it when that happens because i've been working on it for a couple weeks.  I'm painting two new ones instead.  I'm excited.

Meanwhile, this weeks damage;
almost last week of dobsky's class.  Learning alot.  Awesome teacher.

Some quick portraits.  One was 3 hrs, the other 5.

While i'm at it, here are some drawings done of me at California art institute by Meghan, Tim and Kelly.

TRAC 2014

The TRAC 2014 Conference was this week, it was unlike any other event i've ever attended, in a good way.  I wish i could provide highlights and some incredible quotes but unfortunately, i have my 1001 things to do today.  All i can say i that i'm grateful to have had the opportunity to attend such an incredible conference with so many incredible people.  I leave newly inspired and hopeful.   Cheers.

That said i haven't had much time time create artwork.  So i'll leave this a charcoal sketch i did yesterday.

studies gallore

Here is a piece i intend on finishing this week.... (wishful thinking)... these are the color studies and value study.  I have a couple more decisions to make but the drawing is on the final canvas (30"x15") that way i can feel secure enough in the drawing when i apply the paint layer.

This is a part of a series of cast studies i'm doing each week.  This is a cast with a red gel light on it. I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty awesome to paint. I can definitely improve, but definitely a step forward.  This is done on Arches oil paper.

Off to TRAC 2014!

Seeking change

SO, busy week, again.  But i'll do an update first;  I will have some paintings being presented for TRAC2014.  It'll be awesome.  If you haven't heard of who they are or what they're about check it out.  It's very relevant to contemporary art.

Philosophoper Roger Scruton, artist Juliette Aristides and painter
Odd Nerdrum will be be participating in this event along with many others.  Should be exciting!
If you haven't seen R.Scrutons documentary 'Why Beauty Matters', it would be good to watch.

Went to the Autry to check out the Masters of the American West show with a group of comrades.  I'm spending part of monday writing an essay on it for fun.   Perhaps i'll do a small replica of one of my top three paintings three.   Go check it out.

Below, Logan Maxwell Hagege; Mesa Drifters painting. (detail)

With that said i did have some time to do some artwork this week.  Studies for the most part so this week will be crazy with me trying to catch up with my own deadlines for final pieces.   Can't believe it's the end of February.  Trying to turn the tables on this year and enjoy life as i run through it.  Smile.

So here is a paint sketch i did of the model Jonathan this week.  I'm getting accustomed to a new approach in painting which is, well, based alot on thinking, patience and organization.   You can only change so much at one time when doing things the way i do them... which is evidently the hard way.  there is hope yet, at least for some things.

and still playing with charcoal.

and, another study using the new method, studying light, structure, etc.

street lights and traffic violations.

Busy prepping for the Women by Women show and lots of modeling this week. I was loading my car with paintings and got a parking ticket.  That pissed me off.

The show was great!  Thank you to everyone who showed up, it means alot and you made the night so fun.  Couldn't have done it without you peeps.

 My buddy Marina and I.

Study done.
